Membership Basics
The Interpretive Guides Association (IGA) offers various membership levels tailored to individuals and organizations passionate about interpretation and guiding.
To take a course, keep your certification in good standing, or be a part of our community of interpretive guides, membership is required.
Read on to find the option that's best for you:
1. Individual Membership/Professional Dues - $89
This membership level is required by those who:
- Are certified IGA members (e.g. have taken the Apprentice Interpreter, Interpretive Specialist, or Professional Interpreter program)
- Would like to take a course
All memberships are good for one full year from the date of purchase!
In order to maintain your certification, you are required to pay professional dues and complete at least 10 hours of professional development each year.
Benefits include access to professional development opportunities, networking events, and a regular member update with events and job postings.
Please note that to participate in any IGA course, workshop, activity or event that has an outdoor component, participants are required to read and agree to the IGA Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims, Assumption of Risk and Indemnity Agreement. Please refer to our waiver requirement for full details and to review the current Waiver.

2. Basic Administration Fee - $34.99
For individuals who have completed the Basic Knowledge Course and do not have any other IGA certifications. It is required to keep a Basic Knowledge certificate active and in good standing.
While this fee doesn't confer full membership benefits, it ensures your certification remains valid and accessible for download through your online profile.

Group Payment Option
If you have multiple staff who need to pay this fee, you can cover them all at a discounted group rate:
Basic administration fee group rates:
- Up to 10 staff: $220
- Up to 15 staff: $300
- Up to 20 staff: $350
- More than 20 staff: $14 per guide
To qualify, you must:
- Pay by cheque or email money transfer (credit card payments are subject to a 5% service fee)
- Send us a list of your staff who need to renew this fee with their email address.

3. Corporate Membership - $269

4. Affiliate Membership - $89
For individuals who are not certified with the IGA but want to join the interpretive community. Affiliate members enjoy benefits such as discounted events, free professional development sessions, our newsletter, access to job postings, and interpretive resources.
