About This Workshop:
Ever stumbled across a skull on the trail, a pile of bones on the beach, or mysterious feathers in the forest, and wondered, “What happened here?” This session introduces practical, easy-to-use techniques for identifying wildlife remains you may encounter while guiding walks and programs. We'll explore the clues hidden in bones, skulls, teeth, and carcasses, and learn how to piece together the story left behind. You'll leave with new skills and fascinating stories to share with your audiences.
Rob Shoemaker is a Track & Sign Professional certified through Tracker Certification North America, an educator, and a conservation technician based in Victoria, BC. As a conservation technician, Rob works on a large carnivore monitoring program for a regional park system, using trail cameras and wildlife tracking to study bears, cougars, and wolves. He runs Worn Out Boots Adventures, where he teaches wildlife tracking courses and hosts track & sign certifications in British Columbia. He has led tracking programs for universities, parks, and the public, to foster deeper ecological understanding and connection to place.
