About This Session:

This half-day workshop will elevate your storytelling skills for relevance, impact, and engagement. While these skills can be applied to any subject, this course focuses on helping your listeners make new connections with unfamiliar and complex subjects. You will leave with a toolkit that can be immediately applied to existing programs and a foundational approach to creating new, more purposeful conversations.

By the end of the training, participants should be able to:

  • Use ideas and experiences familiar to the audience to facilitate connections with scientific/environmental knowledge, unfamiliar culture and complex histories
  • Use story tools like dramatic arc, rising/falling stakes, and characterization to create interest in your subject and lasting memorability
  • Use layered questions to allow audiences to engage with multiple perspectives
  • Create an inclusive environment that welcomes differing perspectives and creates enough safety for the audience to share their thoughts with strangers
