Bear & Wildlife Safety Course (Jasper)

New for 2023, the Interpretive Guides Association has created a certificate around the topic of bear and wildlife safety. What sets this course apart from other bear safety courses – aside from being instructed by industry renown bear biologist Jay Honeyman – is that this course will focus on the group management aspect of wildlife safety. This course is open to the public, however, it’s meant specifically for hiking guides.

This course will teach you about how to identify bear behaviour, prevent encounters, what tools are available, and what to do during an encounter to ensure not only your safety, but that of your guests.

Included in the cost of the course, each participant will have a chance to discharge real (inert!) bear spray. This course rate is for 2023 only and your certificate will be valid for 3 years.
