Apprentice Interpreter – Canmore – Nov 12-13, 2025

Times (Mountain Time):

• Day 1 - 9:00 am - 5:30 pm
• Day 2 - 9:00 am - 5:30 pm. Exam from 6:30 - 7:30 pm (this exam will be held in person, but is an online exam. Please bring a device with internet if possible to take the exam online (iPad, computer, cellphone). Paper copies will be provided in the case of internet failures.

After you register for this course, you will receive an email with the course agenda, the course guide, mandatory pre-course reading assignment, and course handbooks. If you do not see the email, check your junk folder or email members@interpretiveguides.org.

Completing the pre-course reading, answering the questions associated with it, and participating in classroom discussions and group work is critical to passing the exam.

You must attend all classroom hours and receive 70% or more on all sections of the course exam to become certified as an Apprentice Interpreter.

IGA Professional Dues: You must pay professional dues yearly in order to keep your certification in good standing. Mark one year from your certification date in your calendar. Emails will be sent as reminders so make sure your user profile is kept up to date.

Once you have passed the exam, you will have full access to the Member section of our website. This section gives you access to your certifications, receipts, pro-deal information, and great guide resources.

Hiking Guide Certification: If you plan to work as an interpretive hiking guide you will also need to take our Group Management Course. With both courses complete, you can become an IGA certified Apprentice Interpreter Hiking Guide.

Refund Policy: Refunds will not be issued for any reason (including illness and injury) if cancelling less than 2 weeks prior to the course start date. Full refunds, less an administration and handbook fee, are available if requested 3 weeks (or more) prior to the course start date. For more information, please consult the IGA refund policy.

Make sure you do not register until you know with 100% certainty that you can attend, have good internet access, and have the days off from work.
