Course Details, Exam and Registration
The Interpretive Guides Association Professional Interpreter’s Course is typically offered twice per year – once in the Spring (May) and once in the Fall (November).
The following topics are covered in lecture and workshop/ field trip format: 1) Geology & Ecology of the Rocky Mountains 2) Park Management and Local Issues 3) Ecological & Commemorative Integrity 4) History and Climate Change 5) Fundamentals of Interpretation

Exams need to be taken separately from the course and scheduled in May, June, November, December and January. Individuals wishing to take these exams outside our regular exam schedule must contact firstname.lastname@example.org. Special exam dates may be arranged based on evaluator and proctor availability and are subject to an additional fee of $50 plus gst. July, August and September dates are rarely available.
If you want to become accredited at the professional level please read through and complete the application attached. We require all details to be sent in as early as possible so we can make arrangements for the exam dates PI Application Package 2017
Course Cost: $499 plus GST
Individuals who are fully accredited at the PI level and are interested in refreshing their knowledge may be able to sit through sections of the course a second time for a discounted rate when space is available. Contact our office for details.
If you took the course but did not complete the required tests within 2 years you will have to redo the entire course and pay the full course fees to do so.

A minimum of 6 participants are required to run this course and this number must be reached 3 weeks prior to the course start date. At this point, a decision will be made whether to run the course or not. As a result, no refunds will be given after this point.
Prior to the three-week point, full refunds will be given to individuals who wish to cancel minus a $30 administration fee.
If the Interpretive Guides Association has to cancel a course due to low numbers, you will have the choice of being given a full refund or transferring your registration for another course.

|Professional Interpreter Course - English|
Dates: May 2 -7, 2018
Location: Canmore and Banff (classroom sessions in Canmore, field trips components conducted in Banff National Park) - Classroom sessions at Mystic Springs Chalets. 140 Kananaskis Way, Canmore
Cost: $499 plus GST
Day 1: 9:00 am - 5:30 pm -Interpretation
Day 2: 9:00 pm - 5:00 pm -Parks Management classroom session and field trip. This day will be spent in Banff. Meet at Cave and Basin.
Day 3: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm - Interpretation
Day 4 - 9 am - 6 pm - Geology and Ecology
Day 5 - 9:00 - 5:00 - Geology and Ecology Field Trip - Different Areas of Banff (a valid parks pass will be required!)
Day 6 - 9:00 pm - 1:30 pm - Interpretation
Please read all sections of the IGA manual. If you do not have one you can purchase it for $45 plus GST.
This course is designed for those individuals who have experience working as guides in the Canadian Rockies. It goes much deeper into the material than the Apprentice Course. Please note: this is only a course; in order to become accredited as a professional interpreter you must apply to take the oral and written exams. Exams each cost an additional $65 plus GST. Date: April 13, 14, 15, 16 and April 20, 21 (17, 18, 19 are days off)
Location: Banff (classroom sessions in Banff (room TBA), field trips components conducted in various areas throughout Banff National Park)
Cost: $499 plus GST
If you would like a copy of the IGA English manual you can purchase one for $45 plus gst. They are available digitally or as a paper copy. If you would like to pick one up from the IGA office please email us to arrange a time to come by.

All individuals wishing to take these two tests and become accredited must fill in the PI application package and submit it to the email address above with all documentation showing you have the hours of work and/or education required to become accredited at this level.
