This program will introduce the basic skills that a person might need if they are caught out in an un-planned overnight survival situation, either because of an injury they or a group member has suffered, or because they have been just caught out overnight through other circumstances. Subjects covered during this workshop include how to prioritize the sequence of a short term survival situation, the equipment you should carry in your pack to deal with an unplanned, overnight situation, and how to use that gear including i.e. a shelter, fire, and water purification.

The first hour of the workshop will take place inside and the last hour outside.
Participant requirements: Please bring the following gear: Tarpaulin string and/or parachute cord. Suitable outdoor clothing and footwear to stand around and erect a tarpaulin. Plus any survival gear or equipment that you would like advise on.
Dave Holder is an IGA Master Interpretive Hiking Guide and Instructor. He has spent over 35 years in the outdoors, in many regions of the world, teaching various skills from Nordic skiing to dog sledding and canoeing. He is a Level 3 Boreal Forest guide and instructor with the Wilderness Guides Association (Europe), a hiking and winter travel guide with the ACMG, and a Wilderness First Aid Instructor.
During his early career he was an instructor in the British Army where he taught a variety of mountain training, and survival programs: he spent 12 years studying with Mors Kochanski, a survival guru in Alberta, Dave gained a certificate from Mors recognizing him as a Wilderness Living Skills Instructor.
Part of his year is spent teaching survival and wilderness travel courses for a college in Holland called Voshaar Outdoors: he has written several articles for different outdoor magazines and is currently working on his soon to be released book on survival; his expert advise was called upon to contribute to the book "The worst- case scenario survival handbook" 2019 edition by Joshua Piven.
Dave also spends a large portion of each year working as the Lead Survival Consultant on the History Channels popular TV reality Survival show "Alone," where he has spent five seasons traveling the world supporting this excellent show.

If the IGA has to cancel this program for any reason they will issue you a refund.
