Wilderness and Remote First Aid - 20 hour course, May 26 2018

Cost: $250 plus gst

Dates: May 26/27, 2018

Times: 8 - 5 daily

Location: IGA office, 203-820 Main St. Canmore

This course offers individuals with a basic level of wilderness & remote first aid, covering material in Standard First Aid & CPR, plus special material on techniques for wilderness and remote areas. This course also offers strategies for providing extended care for up to 24 hours. Part of the course is taught in an outdoor setting and requires greater physical activity and endurance than typical first aid training. The course is suitable for those individuals who work or live in remote locations or who are outdoor recreation enthusiasts.

Times: Day 1 - 8:30 am - 5:30 pm, Day 2 - 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, Test from 6 - 7 pm You must receive 70% or more on all 5 sections of the test to become accredited

Advanced Wilderness and Remote First Aid - 40 hour course, May 2018

Cost: $375 plus gst

Dates: May 26 - 29, 2018

Times: 8 - 5 daily

Location: IGA office, 203-820 Main St. Canmore

This provides individuals with comprehensive first aid and CPR techniques. It is a more appropriate level of training for individuals working as hiking guides, allowing you to respond to emergencies in isolated or wilderness settings. The course covers material in Standard First Aid & CPR, plus advanced strategies for providing extended care for more than 24 hours. Part of the course is taught in an outdoor setting and requires greater physical activity and endurance than typical first aid training.

Those individuals who have taken the IGA's Professional Interpreter course and have sent in their PI application package showing they have enough hours of experience and expertise are permitted to take this test.

All individuals taking this test must be a valid member of the IGA in good standing.

In order to become accredited at the PI level, you must complete and pass both the written and oral exams with a minimum of 70% (Written exam requires 70% overall and 70% per section of the test).

Professional Oral Exam (all languages and locations)

Date: Spring Season: April - June 30.

You can submit your oral exam video after you have taken the PI course and have received feedback from the IGA's Executive Director, on your oral exam outline.

Professional Interpreter Course - English

Dates: May 2 -7, 2018

Location: Canmore and Banff (classroom sessions in Canmore, field trips components conducted in Banff National Park) - Classroom sessions at Mystic Springs Chalets. 140 Kananaskis Way, Canmore

Cost: $499 plus GST

Day 1: 9:00 am - 5:30 pm -Interpretation

Day 2: 9:00 pm - 5:00 pm -Parks Management classroom session and field trip. This day will be spent in Banff. Meet at Cave and Basin.

Day 3: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm - Interpretation

          2:00 pm - 6:00 pm - History and Climate Change

Day 4 - 9 am - 6 pm - Geology and Ecology

Day 5 - 9:00 - 5:00 - Geology and Ecology Field Trip - Different Areas of Banff (a valid parks pass will be required!)

Day 6 - 9:00 pm - 1:30 pm - Interpretation

Please read all sections of the IGA manual. If you do not have one you can purchase it for $45 plus GST.

This course is designed for those individuals who have experience working as guides in the Canadian Rockies. It goes much deeper into the material than the Apprentice Course. Please note: this is only a course; in order to become accredited as a professional interpreter you must apply to take the oral and written exams. Exams each cost an additional $65 plus GST.
